Katrina Kaif is one of Bollywood’s highest paid actresses, and she completes 18 years of being in the film industry today! That’s right, Katrina’s first ever movie came out 18 years ago today in which she debuted as an actress in Bollywood. As it is such a monumental day, fans could not help but be nostalgic and emotional about her journey from the bottom to the top.
Born in Hong Kong, Katrina Kaif lived in a number of places before she moved to London, England where she received her first job as a model in her ripe teenage years. She pursued modelling for some time before she met an Indian filmmaker by the name Kaizad Gustad, who decided to cast her in his movie Boom which was released in 2003. The movie turned out to be an absolute failure, commercially and critically. But this was not the end for Katrina, as she continued being a model and got many assignments and gigs. She managed to establish a stable modelling career.
Even though she was beautiful and had potential, filmmakers were hesitant to hire her because of her poor language and communication skills in Hindi. However, she still appeared in a Telugu film Malliswari which was released in 2004. Katrina earned major success in Bollywood after acting in romantic comedies like Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya? (2005) and Namastey London (2007). Both of the movies were pretty successful and Katrina had managed to make an impression on the audience. This was followed by a series of hits in the box office, but Katrina seemed to be facing some criticisms regarding her delivery as an actress, the same boring roles and appearing in male-dominated films.
Her performance in the thriller movie New York released in 2009 earned her a nomination for the Best Actress category in the Filmfare Awards. After starring in Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani (2011), Raajneeti (2010) and Zindagi Na Milesian Dobara (2011), she received her second nomination for her delivery in Mere Brother Ki Dulhan, released in 2011.
However, Katrina Kaif’s highest grossing, immensely popular films were the action thrillers Ek Tha Tiger, released in 2012, Dhoom 3, released in 2013 and Bang Bang released in 2014. All of these movies are ranked as one of the highest grossing Indian movies. Katrina’s career was followed by a series of movies which did not do well commercially after those movies, but there were a fair few exceptions. She starred in Tiger Zinda Hai which was released in 2017, an action sequel to her previous immensely successful movie Ek Tha Tiger. She was also casted in the drama Bharat in 2019, but she received a nomination for the category Best Supporting Actress for the movie Zero (2018) in the Filmfare Awards.
Additionally, Katrina is very involved with her mother’s charity and takes part in multiple stage shows and entertainment programs. She is cautious about her personal life and background due to the scrutiny of the public and media.
Regardless of criticism and target of doubt, Katrina has made a mark on the Bollywood hall of fame as one of the most influencing public figures, and we only hope the best for her!
