The Bombay high court on hearing the reply of lyricist Javed Akhtar on Monday for the petition filed by actor Kangana Ranaut, in which she has confronted the proceedings started by the magistrate in a defamation case filed by Javed Akhtar against her, was informed that the action of the magistrate was “valid”. In her petition, Kangana has contended that the magistrate didn’t have the power to question and ask the police to investigate Akhtar’s allegation in the suit. The rest of her petition will be heard by the High court on 18 Aug,2021.
Last year Akhtar has filed a complaint against Kangana when she had made a controversial and offensive speech against him on national and international television, stating him to be a part of the suicide gang. Akhtar lodged the complaint on the account that the statement has stained his 50 years of work and perseverance in the film industry. On the bases on this, Andheri magistrate court had started court proceedings against Kangana and issued a bailable warrant till the month of March. The actor had appeared in the court and granted bail.
Later Kangana had filed a petition in high court challenging the entire proceeding process along with all the given orders and summoning dates. The petition stated that rather than simply directing the Juhu police under section 202 of the Criminal Procedure Code, conduct an inquiry, the magistrate of the Andheri court to was constrained to inspect Akhtar and the spectators named in the complaint as per Criminal Procedure Code.
