Saira Banu is one of the popular film actresses in Indian film history. She was the third highest-paid actress in the 20s. The actress married Dilip Kumar in 1966. She was 22 and Dilip was 44 at that time. In a 2014 memoir ‘Dilip Kumar: Substance and the Shadow’, Dilip revealed that Banu had become pregnant in 1972. Due to the high blood pressure, she developed in her eighth month of pregnancy, the doctors couldn’t save the baby. After the incident, the couple decided not to have any child, believing that it was God’s will.
After the demise of her husband at the age of 98, Saira persistently had health issues. Recently, she was admitted to Hinduja Hospital, Mumbai. She had complained of blood pressure-related issues. Later, she was shifted to the ICU ward of the hospital.
A few hours after the reports of Saira in ICU were out, a senior doctor informed that the actress is out of danger and is stable. He also added that she would be discharged soon.
The couple were co-stars in films like Sagini, Gopi, Bairaag, and Duniya. Saira was always with Dilip during his last days at the hospital. On July 7, their family friend, Faisal Farooqui took to the actors’ official Twitter handle to share his demise. He wrote, “With a heavy heart and profound grief, I announce the passing away of our beloved Dilip Saab, a few minutes ago. We are from God and to Him, we return.”
