The “Sex and the City” star, Willie Garson, who played the role of the show’s protagonist Carrie Bradshaw’s beloved friend has unfortunately passed away at the age of 57. This news was confirmed by one of the spokesperson from the host channel HBO to USA TODAY. 

The statement from the representative says that “Willie Garson was in life, as on screen, a devoted friend and a bright light for everyone in his universe. He created one of the most beloved characters from the HBO pantheon and was a member of our family for nearly 25 years. We are deeply saddened to learn about his passing and extend our sincere condolences to his family and loved ones.”

Organisations like Variety and People also confirmed the news of the actor’s passing, stating that he died surrounded by his family after being affected by a short illness.

Garson’s character has been a fan favourite throughout the six seasons of the show from 1998 to 2004. Garson was spotted earlier with Sarah Jessica Parker and Cantone on the set of the reboot series “And Just Like That” that is set to air on HBO. The show’s creator, Michael Patrick King, said in his statement that “The Sex ans the City family has lost one of its own, our amazing Willie Garson. His spirit and dedication to craft was present everyday filming And Just Like That. He was there – giving us his all – even while he was sick. His multitude of gifts as an actor and person will be missed by everyone.”
